Day 5 – Book club

This morning I took part in my first ever book club.

A couple of months ago a colleague started a book club at work. I wanted to participate from the start but I completely forgot about it.

Then after the group had chosen their second book I went out and bought it. But I forgot to read it.

Then when the group had chosen their third book, I was ready. I had already downloaded the audiobook on Audible a week or so before. I normally listen to audiobooks on my commute, when I am sick of podcasts or there is nothing to binge watch on Netflix. But with no commute I had to make sure I still made time to listen to the book. I did so on my afternoon walks.

I wasn’t sure whether I would enjoy book club as I don’t always think I have a lot to say.  I often struggle to think on the spot. I also struggle sometimes with believing I have valid opinions. I was prepared to sit back and spend most of the time listening but I surprised myself by participating more than I thought I would. The choice of book helped. It provided a lot of fodder for a great discussion as book club members had differing opinions on the writing, characters and ending.

I enjoyed it so much I will be back next month. I have already downloaded the next book on Audible.

When I told Mr A is was attending a book club he told me I had broken the first rule. Does anybody else remember Unshelved. So insightful. I may have to reread all of the books now.
