Day 29 – its a fabric stash not a hoarding disorder

In #blogjune 2014 I wrote 2 posts about collections that I have – teddy bears and other miscellaneous collections. These days it is my fabric collection or fabric stash as it is more commonly known that is growing at a faster rate than any other collection I own.

I have at least 8 large plastic tubs full of fabric. Most of which I have purchased in the last 6 years but some I inherited from Mum. Most of it is measured and described in a book, except for some of what I got from Mum. At last count I have over 200 pieces of fabric, not including small pieces or fat quarters.

I know I do not need to buy anymore but I can’t help it sometimes. I do try to only buy fabric when I have an idea of what I will make from it so I do not buy fabric just because I like it. It works most of the time. This is why I have not purchased any of this beautiful soft swiss dot fabric because I don’t know what I would make from it that I would wear on a regular basis because of it’s sheer nature.

I do also try to limit my exposure to fabric buying situations, like only going to Spotlight when I really need something and limiting my viewing of online fabric shops.

Sometimes I put myself on fabric buying bans. I have lasted a few months at a time.

After going to a fabric store recently and buying 7 pieces of fabric I have decided that I will put myself on a fabric buying ban for the remainder of 2020. This goes along with my clothes buying ban to help reduce my stash and only make my clothes and from now, only from my stash.

P.S. While writing this post I remembered a dream I had last night or the night before about needing a new swimsuit and having to buy fabric so that I can make it. BTW I don’t need a new swimsuit and nor do I have the intention of making one any time soon.
