Good intentions

Reflection

Reflection on Lake Tyers Beach.

I can’t believe tomorrow is the last day of the second month of 2018. I know I say it regularly but time really has flown by. At the beginning of the year I had some goals for 2018. I didn’t want to go all out and commit to them by calling them new years resolutions but that is essentially what they were. So fast forward to the end of February and I have done little about any of them. So on my way home from work today I decided it was time to get serious. Time to put them in writing. Time to commit.

So here they are. My goals for the rest of 2018:

  • Declutter the house. Mr A really doesn’t have much stuff inside the house. His domain is his 3 sheds and under the house which I leave alone. Plus he is quite good of having regular clean outs of his stuff and household stuff like linen and plastic containers. Me on the other hand am not. I have hoarding tendencies and have magazines, CDs, paperwork etc all over the house.

Progress to date: pinning decluttering tips to my Decorating & organising Pinterest board.

  • Find new recipes to cook and make more dinners. Mr A does 99.9% of the cooking because I go blank when trying to think of things to make for dinner. Occasionally, if the mood strikes I will plan ahead and cook dinner. But very rarely. I want to change this, a) because it is not fair on Mr A particularly as he doesn’t even like cooking and b) I am sick of eating the same things and want to add variety into what we eat.

Progress to date: nothing except I have amassed a very large collection of food and cooking magazines from which to source the recipes.

  • Sew more. In the last few years I have dabbled in sewing again after being quite a prolific sewer/sewist in my teen years. This was mainly to make Miss A shorts that weren’t super short like the ones in the shops. But this year I want to get into it more seriously and make more clothes for me and use some of the fabric in my ever growing fabric stash that has kept growing despite a limited sewing output.

Progress to date: after a lot of planning, maybe too much planning, a little fear and a lot of procrastination I have made 1 dolls dress, 1 dolls shorts, 1 skirt for Miss A and a half completed shirt for me in the last 6 weeks or so. I think this deserves its own blog post, so stay tuned.

  • To kept fit again and re-lose the weight I lost in 2015. 2015 was a good year for me fitness wise. I think I was the fittest and toned I had ever been. Then I had my bike accident on 1 January 2016, returned to a boring, hopeless job where comfort eating was the norm and all my progress was lost. I did start to regain some of that fitness through riding in late 2016 early 2017 but then I lost motivation again. The story of my life. Now I want to get back or exceed  that level of fitness.

Progress to date: I have a new personal trainer at the gym. I have always had one but I think my new trainer will be good for me. I always feel like I have had a good session with her and worked hard but not to the limit I feel like giving up. I think we have clicked. I am also contemplating doing the MS Brissie to Bay 25 km bike ride in June. I did it last year and it was hard as it was quite hilly. But I survived. Plus I think I need the goal to work towards.

So these are my goals. In black and white. Now I just need to fight the procrastination, lack of motivation and time wasting that dogs my life to make them a reality.
