Day 22 – stories intertwined

I don’t generally read more than one book at a time but at the moment I have 3 on the go.

First, is The Dictionary of Lost Words by Pip Williams last I wrote about in an earlier post. After a good start on the book I have put it aside for now.

Secondly, I am listening to the audiobook of All Among the Barley by Melissa Harrison for book club. I was going to wait until I had finished my first book to start this one but as it is 8 hours long I didn’t want to leave it til the last minute to get it finished. I have a week and a half to get through the 4 hr 50 minutes. I am back at the gym now so not going for as many walks so I started listening to it while doing a mindless work task.

Thirdly, we have started reading The Wee Free Men by Terry Pratchett to Miss A at bedtime. Mr A is a Pratchett fan but this is my first foray into Discworld. As we alternate reading nights I am only getting half of the story. So far I don’t think I will become a Pratchett fan but part of me does think of going back and reading the part sI miss when it is Mr A’s night to read.

As All Among the Barley is set in rural England in the 1930’s and references fairy legend I sometimes expect to hear the Nac Mac Feegles popping up in the story before I have to remind myself that they are from The Wee Free Men. I think at one stage I also started to get Essie May from The Dictionary of Lost Words and Edie Mather from All Among the Barley mixed up as well.

Does this twisting of characters and story lines happen to others who read more than one book at a time? It isn’t really something I have experienced before.
