In amongst tidying up the study/craft room I spent some of Saturday morning going through a box of family photos I inherited when my parents died.
In amongst the box was a couple of metal Kodak slide boxes full of slides. I held a couple up to light to see what was on them and I think I saw my brother as a baby. It may not have been but it is the right era – early 70s. I will have to investigate scanning them or something to transition them into a more usable format.
I also found:
- my parents wedding photos
- photos from when my parents were in the RAAF and WRAAF
- old speedway photos
- a framed photograph of my Dad when he was a baby (well I think it is my father) and one of him as a young man
- photos from my mother’s childhood
- a copy of the photo of myself and my mother with her grandmother at her 100th birthday party that may or may not have been in the Courier Mail newspaper – the copyright statement on the back of the photo is credited to the paper.
I have some other photos from my mother’s childhood in another box but I didn’t realise I had these others as well. I am amazed at how many of these old photos from the 1940s, 50s and 60s I have. I feel very lucky to have them. I made a point of asking my mother who some people in the photos were before she passed away but there are still other people I have no idea who they are. I should gather all the photos together and ask my mum’s siblings. They might know. I hope so.
