This morning I had to take Miss A to day care as Mr A was sick. This is not something I usually do as the main bus station I catch buses from is in the opposite direction of the day care centre from our house.
This meant I caught a different but less frequent bus to work. I was so concerned about getting to the bus stop on time that I didn’t stop to take a photo of the beautiful rainbow in the sky. I could have as I had mixed up the times in my head and had a 7 minute wait for the bus. By this time the rainbow had gone.
Anyway, the bus came, I got on, sat down in the front seat and proceeded to put on my headphones to listen to music on my phone and check Facebook etc. as I usually do. Head down for most of my commute.
However, I decided to put my phone away this morning and concentrate on my surrounds. My normal bus route involves going down a main arterial road, then a tunnel or dedicated bus way. This morning’s bus route however round its way through the suburbs before entering the city from the north. I’m glad I did.
I saw:
- All sorts of commuters, in cars, buses, approaching the train station we passed, cyclists and walkers.
- People out for their morning walk, including 2 old ladies walking their small and cute dogs, albeit slowly.
- People getting their early morning caffeine fix from a number of suburban cafes.
- A dad and his pre-school aged son get on my bus who I then heard continually chatting away during the pauses between the songs I was listening to.
- A 2 story stucco house with Tudor style elements and led-light windows that I had never noticed before in a street filled with renovated Queenslanders and six-pack/eight-pack 70s brick unit bocks.
- The McDonalds, Fiona and I have frequented in the past to grab a quick breakfast before heading out on all sorts of adventures.
- Grey clouds push their way in front of the blue sky, bringing light drizzle then patches of blue sky again. And another rainbow.
- Various real estate and election candidate signs dotted across the suburban landscape.
- The light industrial area of the inner northern suburbs filled with used car yards, auto mechanics, tyre places and a very large car wash.
The bus journey may have taken longer than my usual express route to work but I felt calm and relaxed as I got off the bus and grateful that I took the time to study and enjoy my journey for a change.
