After 44 years of never owning a cat or a dog, today that has changed.
We had been thinking of getting Miss A a cat for awhile now. Mr A had cats and dogs and an assortment of other pets growing up but I had only ever had birds or fish. The chickens and cows we had when I was a teenager were more Mum’s than mine. So I never really had any desire to have a cat or a dog. When asked if I was a cat or a dog person I would usually say neither.
But over the last year or so we have decided that maybe having a cat wouldn’t be too bad. Occasionally I would look at the RSCPA or Animal Welfare League websites to see what they had but not go any further. But it is Miss A’s birthday coming up and well last week we started looking at cat adoption sites online again. Who knew there were so many places to adopt a cat from in Brisbane.
Anyway, this morning we went to the Eatons Hill Veterinary Surgery to have a look at a couple of kittens that they had for rehoming. Needless to say they were so very cute and now we have a new member of the family – Sirius Black Wray – a small mostly black domestic short hair that is about 7 weeks old. He was abandoned by his owner and about 40 odd other cats recently.
He is settling in well so far and Miss A is one excited young girl.
How lovely! I recall how much Miss A enjoyed playing with our Claude when you visited earlier this year. She will ‘ve thrilled to bits. He is one dapper cat 🙂
What a beautiful new friend! I get where you’re coming from – if you haven’t had animals before, it’s difficult to imagine how much laughter and connection they can add to your life, they can just seem like an additional chore. <3 I hope Miss A likes little Sirius!
No better companion than a feline. I love my beautiful Burmese and she’s brought me so much joy. I take her out with me on a harness occasionally and she loves car journeys too.
